As part of the initiative by the Government to reduce road deaths they are planning to bring in road speed limit reductions.

The proposals should give local government more powers to in force tighter speed limits and traffic control. With 20mph expected to be introduced in built up residential areas and especially around schools and some rural roads reduced from 60mph to 50mph.

This together with providing the police with more powers to fine for traffic offenses and stop vehicles without reason is intended to reduce risks on the roads and increase road safety awareness.
