Part 3 - Controls Lesson

October 20th 2008

When it comes to the controls lesson on the pst’s. Most people give it little or no thought, yet this is one of the most hazardous parts of the test. As most people give it the least amount of preparation.

Very often the attitude is “i know what a seat does”, “I know how the seat belt works”

Great you might do, but onre of the most common faults is not setting the “base line” or finding out what the person knows. The amount of times i have been with a pdi and started this lesson, and they either don’t ask anything or just say “have you had any driving Lessons?”

No this is my first one.. Comes the reply

~Thus starts a 20 minute speech on what everything does, with very little involvement of me.

Despite me looking around, not interested and huffing and puffing, then comes “why aren’t you listening to me”

I’m bored

Well you need to know what all this stuff is and what it does

I do know

I thought you hadn’t had any driving lessons before

I haven’t

Then how do you know what it is

I’m the under 17 Formula 3000 World Racing Champion!!

(but this is my first driving lesson, i’ve never been allowed to drive on the road up until today)

Here endeth your test!!!

After that has been established remember to use the 3 points of description?

What’s that? I hear you ask.

1) What it is

2) What it does

3) My commands will be

How Long Since You Passed?

How long has it been since you were last with a Driving School or Driving Instructor?

Did you ever do a Pass Plus Course?

With the introduction on Driving Tests of Eco Driving, if you are a fully qualified driver, you may want to consider taking some Refresher Driving Lessons. Why?

They estimate that 98% of Drivers if they took there Driving test again would fail. Do you feel that way? Think back to when you passed your test, did you have to change down through the gears when slowing down?

Did your Driving Instructor and then your Examiner ask you 2 or 3 questions from the Highway Code as you sat at the roadside when you finished your test?

Did you have to turn a handle at the front of the car to get the engine running?

If the answer to any of these is Yes, you would really benefit by taking refresher Driving Lessons. At Driver Training we are a Driving School that teaches people the latest training methods designed for modern driving.

Think back years ago you would hear of lorries or cars crashing at the bottom of hills because there brakes overheated and failed. When was the LAST time you heard about that on the news?

When you were taking Driving Lessons with your Driving Instructor, when did he explain about the Anti lock braking system your car had?

Things change so quickly in the world of car technology, and as a driving School, we have to keep up with it. That’s why we can offer you 1 or 2 hour refresher Driving Lessons throughout the UK.

We have Instructors in Workington, Billingham, Hartlepool, Cannock, Walsall, BIrmingham, Shrewsbury, Ilford and many other places.

Why not call FREE on 0800 1 777 149 and ask about our Advanced Driving REfresher Lessons?

Eco Safe Driving

From september 10th everyone that goes for there driving Test will be assessed with regards to eco driving.

This is a more advanced way of doing not just Driving Lessons but a skill for driving for life. Eco Driving hlelps you save fuel so its a more economical way of driving and so is more ecologically friendly.

What does it involve? Most Driving Schools and Driving Instructors have been teaching this way of driving for many years and it has been the cause of many arguments with parents, who always say “well I was never taught that”.  Driving Instructor Training has been using these techniques for a while, such as just using your brakes to slow down, rather than going down through the gears at the same time.

Block Changing - Driving Schools teach when accelerating on a suitable road to change from 3rd to 5th gear, saving time and fuel by eliminating 4th gear.

When changing down going from 4th to second or 3rd to first gear, rather than the old fashioned way of 5,4,3,2,1.

And whether you take the test in Kingstanding, Workington, Hartlepool, Luton or Dagenham the principles remain the same.

If you want a Driving School with Driving Instructors who teach the latest eco friendly styles of driving then why not call us today on 0800 1 777 149 or e-mail info@drivertraining.me.uk
